Dear Parents and Community Members,
Winter is slowly fading and spring is within reach. In the world of pupil services we know that annual review season has begun. The annual review meeting is a time for you to ask questions about your child's progress, ask how your child is accessing the general education curriculum, and ask what you can do as a parent to help support your child's learning.
The chairpersons of the Carmel Central School District are ready to work with you and support you during this process. Our goal is to be as transparent as possible. We have many excellent programs is Carmel. In addition, we have been reviewing our programs and how they align across the district. We are looking at providing a strong emphasis on early reading and math skills, while also providing opportunities for your children to grow with and learn from typical peers.
In our secondary schools, we are focusing on preparing for post secondary learning and becoming a member of the greater community. Our emphasis is on providing the necessary specialized instruction, accommodations, and supports needed to move your child toward preparation for the 21st. century world. In addition to academics, our goal is to provide each of our students with opportunities to learn vocational skills necessary for the world of work. To that end, our high school will be holding a job fair in April. Our students in our PACE program continue to work in the apartment constructed within Carmel High School. Many of our other students attend work based learning within the community, or through our Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES affiliate. At your annual review you can discuss how your child is preparing for post secondary opportunities.
We look forward to a productive ending of the school year.
